Rachael Leigh Cook was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Thomas Howard Cook, a social worker and former stand-up comedian, and JoAnn Cook, a cooking instructor and weaver. She is a part-Italian. Cook was featured in her first public service announcement on foster care when she was seven years old. Cook started working as model for children's prints at the age of 10 years old, including the national ads for Target.
