Susan Sarandon Bio

It was shortly after 1968's Democratic convention when there was an audition for a movie that featured several roles for teenagers who had disrupted convention. Joe (1970) was offered a role in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon, an actor who had trained to be an actor, was rejected. His wife Susan was chosen for a leading part in the film as Susan Compton, the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the movie Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer partner and then makes friends with Joe (Peter Boyle)-- a bigot who works on an assembly line and who is a collector of guns.Five years after, Sarandon made the film in which fans of classic films have come to recognize her as Janet, who gets entangled with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Sarandon stood up for Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 years after her debut. She was able to fly on her own from Rome from Italy, to Los Angeles. She stated "It was such an amazing script... it eliminated a myriad of stereotypes and challenged America's notion of what success is". "I attended the film studio along with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his sexy assistants prior to getting back on the plane. Her relationship with Bull Durham (1988)) acting partner, Tim Robbins, had given birth to two sons in 1992. This placed Sarandon in the awkward position of having to leave her idyllic home to take on roles that challenged her. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and for the best actress in Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) was her first Academy Award nomination.
